Teams and Format

The Season

This current format of the Premier League began in 1992, where the league consists of 20 teams and a total of 38 matchweeks. Essentially, that means that each team will play 38 games, half of which are at their home stadium, and the other half are away. As mentioned previously, a win results in 3 points, draw is 1 point and a loss is no points. The team with the most points after 38 games played is the official Premier League Champion.

Places in Europe and Relegation

What makes the Premier League so exciting is not just the sheer competitiveness between each of the teams, but also that each team is playing for something even if they cannot win the league on points. Top 6 teams guarantee a spot in european competitions for the next season, while the bottom 3 teams are relegated to the lower division. So there is a lot to fight for and to avoid for the teams.
